What will I do?

Education majors usually work in schools with school-age children. You may also find a job as a tutor, working at an after-school program or daycare center, or working in social services. Some education majors have jobs teaching adults basic literacy skills or job skills.

What classes will I take?

You will learn about how students learn. You will learn how to teach You will also learn specific information related to what you want to teach. For example, if you want to teach math, you will have to take a lot of math classes.

What skills do I need to start school?

You must like working with people. You will need to be patient and friendly. You will need to be able to talk in front of large groups of people.

What can I do with an associate’s degree?

An associate’s degree prepares you to enter into a bachelor’s degree program. You may also work at an after-school program or a day care.

What can I do with a bachelor’s degree?

Most people with a bachelor’s degree in education work in K-12 schools. You may also find a job working at a non-profit, library, or community center.

What are some challenges?

Depending on where you live, teacher pay can be very low. Teaching is a very challenging and exhausting job.

 

How easy will it be to get a job?

It depends where you live. Urban areas are almost always hiring teachers. Finding jobs in rural or suburban areas can be harder.

It also depends what you’re teaching. For example, it’s easier for Math and Science teachers to find jobs than Art and Music teachers.
